Twenty-four teams are made from all the schools, teams and participants and those 24 first competed in one of four Pools of six team, with each team wrestling every other team. The Vikings wrestled Riverside (4th in State), Skyview (2nd in State MT), Libby (MT), Mead, & Sentinel (MT).
Then the teams were then divided into brackets against the other pools placers of equal finishing. Three brackets of 8 determine. The Vikings were in the Bronze division and won there first two matches (Bonney Lake & Post Falls) before a rematch against Mead in the finals. The Vikings avenged their earlier loss with a narrow 33-21 victory to win the Bronze Division Championship!
The camp concluded with an all-weight, double-elimination takedown tournament. Senior Jake Lowe was a Camp Champion and Travis Bogard was runner-up.
I’m really proud of how our guys competed in some very tough wrestling. For a squad with five junior high wrestlers battling against and beating seasoned high school wrestlers it was REALLY impressive. A number of guys had EIGHT matches in one day and after being sore and tired STILL continued to wrestle tough through the rest of camp.
The finals victory over Mead was also impressive given a number of their team had just returned from Indiana and the National Duals.
Pictures coming!
CONGRATULATIONS VIKINGS!!
