EndZone: High Performance Training w/ Viking Alum Pat Castelli

Going on now: High Performance Sport-specific Wrestling Training at END ZONE ATHLETICS

Tuesday and Thursday from 430 to 530pm. EndZone will do individual testing to assess each wrestler’s strengths and weaknesses to maximize and minimize them respectively.

Pat the Cat Castelli from 2006Assisting at EndZone Athletics is Viking Wrestling Alumni Pat Castelli. Pat is a student at WWU and trains in MMA competitions (won his first kickboxing match July 31 at big Tulalip Casino event). He is passionate about strength training and has been an annual finalist in Western Washington University’s Strong Man competition--which is impressive because he only weights 145 pounds!

To be a successful athlete you need to be strong. To be strong you need muscle. To build muscle takes time. WORKOUT NOW to be a successful wrestler.

Viking alum Rowan Pilger Fights

Viking wrestling Alumni Rowan Pilger continues competing on the mat. A 6x state placer (in Washington & Oregon) & All-American, Rowan trains at AMC in Kirkland with Matt Hume–one of the best trainers in the world. Rowan has competed in various submission tournaments, and most recently she competed in her first boxing match.

We’ll look forward to Rowan’s continued development in her quest to reach the MMA ranks!
Note: Rowan is “representing” with the Inglemoor Wrestling t-shirt.

National Greco-Roman Competition – update

Congratulations to GABE SEWARD who competed in his first National Championship tournament in Fargo, North Dakota and did a fantastic job in the Greco-Roman competition!

Competing in the cadet division, his 130 pound bracket had 56 of the top wrestler from around the country. Gabe won three matches and lost two–being three matches away from placing. His 3 wins were against (1) Gardner-AZ, (2) Schnell-WI, & (3) Gray-Utah.

His two losses were against: (1) Tyler White- (Cobra All-Stars) Grant HS, Oregon who was a 4th place finisher this Spring at the NW Cadet Regional Championships and, (2) Brandon Jeske, from St. Christopher’s School in Virginia (9th grader), who was the 2010 FILA Cadet National Champion.

Juniors

Viking Senior-to-be ANTHONY BRATCHER competed in the 70-man 135 pound Junior division Greco-Roman tournament losing his first two matches: (1) Taylor Moeder, from St. James HS, is a two-time Kansas State Champion. He was unscored on as he breezed to his championship his sophomore year and finished his junior season with a 40-1 record. (2) Johnny Delmedico, from Addison Trail, Illinois was a freestyle All-American last year and was a member of the National Champion Cadet Dual meet team in 2009.

Anthonycompeted in the Freestyle competition July 22-24th. He wrestled three tough matches, winning one and losing another he was ahead in before making a costly mistake. All great experience for a Senior who was a Mat Classic participant last year and is looking for a championship medal in 2011!

Weekend News

Two non-wrestling events of notice this past weekend!

  • Congratulations to Paul Schulfer (Co-Head Coach) who was married Saturday July 17th to Jennifer Christie (Inglemoor alumni and former wrestler) in a ceremony on Lopez Island. The couple will honeymoon in Jamaica before returning to their new home in Kenmore.
  • On Sunday, July 18th, Coach Keener & his supercharged Chevy Camaro won first place at the 2010 Kirkland Classic Car Show.

Greco Intensive

Vikings with Greco Intensive Coaches

June 21-24- Sherwood, Oregon.
Anthony Bratcher, Brian Trabun, Ian Bedo, & Jared Koukal participated in the 2010 Greco Intensive Camp–4 days, 8 hours per day–with Olympian Anthony Amado & Hall of Famer Coach Sprague of Cobra Wrestling Systems!

The guys returned late Thursday night and are ready to depart Saturday morning for TEAM CAMP at North Idaho College!
