Tuesday and Thursday from 430 to 530pm. EndZone will do individual testing to assess each wrestler’s strengths and weaknesses to maximize and minimize them respectively.

Assisting at EndZone Athletics is Viking Wrestling Alumni Pat Castelli. Pat is a student at WWU and trains in MMA competitions (won his first kickboxing match July 31 at big Tulalip Casino event). He is passionate about strength training and has been an annual finalist in Western Washington University’s Strong Man competition--which is impressive because he only weights 145 pounds!

Viking wrestling Alumni Rowan Pilger continues competing on the mat. A 6x state placer (in Washington & Oregon) & All-American, Rowan trains at AMC in Kirkland with Matt Hume–one of the best trainers in the world. Rowan has competed in various submission tournaments, and most recently she competed in her first boxing match.

We’ll look forward to Rowan’s continued development in her quest to reach the MMA ranks!

Congratulations to GABE SEWARD who competed in his first National Championship tournament in Fargo, North Dakota and did a fantastic job in the Greco-Roman competition!

Competing in the cadet division, his 130 pound bracket had 56 of the top wrestler from around the country. Gabe won three matches and lost two–being three matches away from placing. His 3 wins were against (1) Gardner-AZ, (2) Schnell-WI, & (3) Gray-Utah.

His two losses were against: (1) Tyler White- (Cobra All-Stars) Grant HS, Oregon who was a 4th place finisher this Spring at the NW Cadet Regional Championships and, (2) Brandon Jeske, from St. Christopher’s School in Virginia (9th grader), who was the 2010 FILA Cadet National Champion.

Viking Senior-to-be ANTHONY BRATCHER competed in the 70-man 135 pound Junior division Greco-Roman tournament losing his first two matches: (1) Taylor Moeder, from St. James HS, is a two-time Kansas State Champion. He was unscored on as he breezed to his championship his sophomore year and finished his junior season with a 40-1 record. (2) Johnny Delmedico, from Addison Trail, Illinois was a freestyle All-American last year and was a member of the National Champion Cadet Dual meet team in 2009.

Anthonycompeted in the Freestyle competition July 22-24th. He wrestled three tough matches, winning one and losing another he was ahead in before making a costly mistake. All great experience for a Senior who was a Mat Classic participant last year and is looking for a championship medal in 2011!

• Congratulations to Paul Schulfer (Co-Head Coach) who was married Saturday July 17th to Jennifer Christie (Inglemoor alumni and former wrestler) in a ceremony on Lopez Island. The couple will honeymoon in Jamaica before returning to their new home in Kenmore.

• On Sunday, July 18th, Coach Keener & his supercharged Chevy Camaro won first place at the 2010 Kirkland Classic Car Show.

The first night of Wednesday Night Round-Robin wrestling hosted by Sabotage Wrestling Academy was tonight and we had five Vikings take advantage of the opportunity to get three matches of LIVE experience!

All the Vikings earned a spot in the Championship round and each wrestled TOUGH!

The match of the night had to be the Kenmore Colt Josh Koukal’s win over the KingCo District 4A Runner-up from last year. An outstanding effort by an incoming sophomore and I’m sure he’ll share the news with big brother Tim too!

The “tournaments” are quite relaxed with spirited competition. No weight classes–whatever you weigh, you’re matched-up with three other guys of similar weight. Singlet or shorts/tshirt–no one cares. NO expensive USA Card (which expires at the end of August anyway). Coaches are officiating and matches go quickly because there’s no rest time requirement. IT’S GREAT!!

And afterward, the Vikings went out for Pizza and watched the Chainsaw get SLAMMED by Kenmore’s World Famous Eating Champion: Paul “The Bottomless Pit” Schulfer!  (In 2006, Paul beat Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi’s record of 53.5 hot dogs. In 2007 Joey Chestnut set the hot dog eating world record (66 dogs in 12 minutes)– Coach Schulter took some time off to recuperate and will be getting married this summer. Sabotage Summer Camp (July 5 & 6th) – Train with the German National Team!

While earning a full-ride scholarship to play football at the University of Wyoming, the senior co-captain has also been one of Inglemoor’s most dedicated and accomplished wrestlers.

Having started in the 8th grade, he was an original member of the Viking Wrestling Club and USA Cobra Washington teams, qualifying for the Washington State team to Nationals three times. He was a two-time State participant.

He missed all but the last month of his junior wrestling season– battling through two knee surgeries. He was working-out three-times a day (morning rehab, wrestling practice, evening cycling classes) to prepare for the end of the year, where he placed 7th in State. A month later he was runner-up in the Freestyle State Tournament and won the Greco-Roman State Championship.

Travis focused on football the next summer and had a monster year for Coach Naish and the Vikings the Fall of his Senior Season, winning All-Conference First Team Awards on BOTH offense and defense.  His highlight videos were featured on ESPN (see video) and his outstanding gridiron play earned him attention from many Division One football programs.

The senior co-captain decided to cut his wrestling season short, in the interest of prioritizing his future on the football field. On National Signing Day, Travis signed a rare Full-Ride Scholarship to play football for the Cowboys of Wyoming.  He departs June 12 for Laramie, Wyoming where he is enrolled in Summer School and eager to start training with his new college teammates.

Travis leaves a legacy to follow as an outstanding high school student/athlete.
