Inglemoor Viking Wrestling

Nine Vikings entered the 4A KingCo JV Qualifying tournament and all placed in the tournament to earn a spot in the 2009 4A KingCo District Tournament next Friday and Saturday at Juanita High School.

Eight of the Inglemoor squad were in the finals with FOUR Champions: Brian Trabun (130; 2 pins), Ryan Rinaldi (135), Cody Peterson (145; 2 pins), & Dain Byquist (171; 2 pins). Runner-ups were: Casey Stoltz (140), Devin Gniot (160), Ben Carson (189), & Jimmy Brejda (215). Losing his first match and doing an outstanding job battling back through four matches to place 4th was Brandon Hernan (152).

Congratulations to Brian Trabun who finished the JV season undefeated at 14-0 –ALL BY PINS!

The effort by the Vikings earned them the (unofficial) Tournament championship (team scores below) and sends TWENTY into the District tournament.

Those following the tournament on the fantastic new scoring system from Alex Phillips and Smart Run Systems– could get up-to-date brackets and team scoring on their wireless device–it was VERY cool! No waiting for brackets to be posted as you could follow the action from your phone (or laptop).  The same system will be in use at the District tournament– bring your Wi-Fi capable device--you’ll be glad you did!

The Vikings split their last dual meets of the year on Thursday at Woodinville with a loss against Mercer Island and a win against cross-town rivals Bothell.

The win for Mercer Island avenges their loss from last year and earned the Islanders the Crown Division Dual Meet Championship, the position held by Inglemoor last year.

Saturday the Viking JV’s will compete in the JV Qualifier at Roosevelt HS. The top 4 JV’s in each weight become entries into the 4A KingCo District tournament next Friday and Saturday (at Juanita).

The Vikings split their double dual meet with a big win over the Rebels and a loss against the Falcons.

The Vikings were eager to return with Coach Keener to Juanita where the Vikings won all but one match by pin.

Against Woodinville, too many holes and missing horses were difficult to overcome and the Vikings were manhandled by the Falcons.

During the 2nd match, 160 pounder Jace Patton broke his leg (3 breaks in tibia & 1 in fibula)  and had surgery Wednesday that required 10 screws and two plates. The undefeated in KingCo wrestler will be hard to replace and we wish him well.

Thirteen Viking JV wrestlers rowed their ships into the Mountlake Terrace harbor, then proceeded to pillage the 2010 JV Tournament of all its gold! 
Of 13 wrestlers, TEN won Championship Gold Medals with 3 Silvers; The Inglemoor squad had 35 wins against only 4 losses!

Next weekend, the JV wrestlers will be at Roosevelt High School to compete in the 2010 KingCo 4A JV Qualifying tournament. One JV wrestler in each weight, from each KingCo team, will compete in a tournament with the top four placers moving-on to the next week as an entrant into the KingCo 4A tournament.

The Inglemoor Viking’s run at the District Championship will depend on the strength of it’s outstanding junior varsity wrestlers.  Go Vikings!

Thursday, January 21st marked the last home meet of the 2009-2010 season and a night when we paid honor to our dedicated seniors and their parents.

Graduating Seniors include: Weston Cox, Rob Zsigmondovics, Jace Patton, Dain Byquist, Yuji Pearce, Tim Koukal, & Travis Bogard.

The event was also combined with Staff Appreciation Night, when each wrestler  invited their favorite Inglemoor teacher. It’s always great to have the staff supporting their students and we’re thankful for them taking the night off to root for the Vikings.  As has been the case this season, spotting a team a 24 point lead makes for suspense and the exciting finishes the Inglemoor team has been pulling off this year.
